Senior Backend Engineer at Citizen

From notifying users about building fires to assisting in the rescue of missing children, our technology empowers millions of people every day. We are backed by prominent investors like 8VC and Founders Fund, and we are currently looking for a talented Senior Backend Engineer to help us scale our impact as we expand into hundreds of new cities.

What you'll be doing

• Design and build robust backend systems that prioritize high availability, low latency, and the ability to scale as our user base grows.
• Take full operational responsibility for the services you create, including managing infrastructure, toolsets, and deployment pipelines.
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, working alongside product, design, and engineering colleagues to deliver a seamless, real-time experience for our users.

What you'll bring

To succeed in this role, you should have a strong foundation in software engineering and a passion for building reliable distributed systems. We are looking for the following qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• At least 5 years of professional engineering experience with a primary focus on backend development.
• Proven experience working with production-grade code in languages such as Go or Python.
• Expertise in designing and implementing high-performance APIs for distributed systems.
• Deep knowledge of data architecture and database systems, including experience with technologies like Cassandra, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and BigQuery.
• Proficiency in English to communicate effectively within our team.
• Familiarity with mobile technologies like Swift, Kotlin, React.js, or TypeScript is a plus, as is experience with video streaming or machine learning systems.

What you'll get
