We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis. At Pachama, we use artificial intelligence and satellite imagery to help companies invest in nature with confidence. Our platform provides continuous insights into how forests sequester carbon, protect biodiversity, and support local communities. By joining us, you will lead the development of our core systems, enabling our customers to identify high-quality, nature-based projects that fight climate change. While this is a remote position, we prefer candidates located within three hours of Pacific time to facilitate cross-functional collaboration with our team of scientists, designers, and engineers.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain the systems that power our platform, specifically focusing on the infrastructure that provides access to our geospatial and remote sensing datasets.
- Provide technical leadership by driving cross-functional projects, defining product strategy, and mentoring teammates to improve overall engineering efficiency.
- Contribute hands-on to the codebase by developing scalable tools that allow our science and engineering teams to generate high-quality insights for forest carbon projects.
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in Python, Postgres/PostGIS, and GraphQL.
- Experience building scalable APIs and managing cloud infrastructure using GCP, Heroku, or Kubernetes.
- A solid understanding of front-end frameworks like React and TypeScript, with a focus on usability and user experience.
- A track record of leading large, cross-team engineering efforts with an emphasis on clean code, clear documentation, and transparent communication.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced startup environment and a genuine passion for environmental sustainability.
- Bonus points for experience with distributed compute systems, data pipelines, and machine learning infrastructure.
