The opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Video team. In this role, you will be a key player in designing and maintaining the infrastructure that makes our platform tick. Video is the heartbeat of the Gather experience, and you will help us ensure it remains low-latency and seamless for thousands of concurrent users across the globe. You will work on our custom-built SFU design, which spans multiple clouds and data centers, to support the unique ways our users interact, mingle, and present to one another.

A day in the life

• You will optimize our video servers to handle high-density meetings with ease, ensuring a smooth experience even as participant numbers grow.
• You will build robust, automated testing suites that guarantee the reliability and performance of our video infrastructure as we continue to innovate.
• You will develop sophisticated instrumentation for our services, giving us deep visibility into how our systems perform under various network conditions.

Who you are

You are a seasoned engineer who thrives on solving complex technical challenges. You have a deep understanding of WebRTC and have previously worked on large-scale group video platforms. You possess a strong intuition for clean software design and are comfortable navigating the fast-paced environment of an early-stage startup. Because we are a remote-first team, you have excellent communication skills and the drive to take ownership of difficult problems without needing constant guidance. You are fluent in English and ready to collaborate with a global team.
