Imagine joining a team where your work helps millions of people document their journeys across the globe. Based in the heart of Amsterdam, we are a group of over 50 people representing more than 20 nationalities. We share a passion for travel and a mission to change the way people explore the world. Our app, which allows users to plan, track, and relive their trips, has already reached over 10 million travelers. We are proud of our high ratings and the recognition we have received from both Google and Apple, but we know our most exciting chapters are still ahead of us.
The opportunity
We are looking for a Senior Android Engineer to join our small, high-impact team. In this role, you will play a vital part in maintaining and evolving our Android platform. We value engineers who think deeply about scalability and performance while maintaining a practical approach to development. You will have the freedom to craft high-quality solutions, ensuring our app remains a seamless, beautiful tool for our global community. You will work within a hybrid environment, collaborating closely with our lead and senior engineers to shape the future of our travel technology.
A day in the life
- Collaborate daily with our engineering, product, and design teams to build and refine features within our shared codebase, which utilizes Kotlin Multiplatform.
- Take ownership of the Android application by implementing new features, maintaining existing functionality, and proactively addressing technical debt to ensure long-term stability.
- Engage in deep technical discussions regarding our app architecture, focusing on performance, resiliency, and the unique challenges of an offline-first, background-heavy mobile platform.
Who you are
You are a seasoned engineer with a deep passion for problem-solving and a strong foundation in software architecture. You prioritize understanding core engineering principles over temporary framework trends, and you are always looking for ways to improve the resiliency of the code you ship. You are comfortable working in an Agile environment and communicating in English.
Your background includes:
- Extensive experience with the native Android SDK, including both Kotlin and Java.
- Proficiency with AndroidX Jetpack libraries, Gradle, and GitHub.
- A keen eye for UI/UX, with a desire to push the boundaries of what standard mobile interfaces can achieve.
- Experience with mobile architecture principles, particularly for applications that rely on background processes and offline capabilities.
Why you'll love it here
We believe in supporting your life both inside and outside of the office. We offer a hybrid work model that allows you to balance your time between home and our vibrant downtown Amsterdam office, including the flexibility to work from another country for up to 8 weeks each year. Our benefits package is designed to help you thrive:
- A generous home office budget and a high-end MacBook.
- 30 days of paid time off, plus two additional paid culture days.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- A dedicated professional development budget to support your growth.
- Flexible working hours and a pension plan.
- Daily team lunches, regular social events, and even a yearly free flight or train ride to a surprise destination.
