We are the Freedom of the Press Foundation, and we are looking for a Senior Security Software Developer to join us on a contract basis. You will help us advance the WEBCAT browser extension, which is a vital tool designed to ensure code integrity within browser environments.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement security-focused features for the WEBCAT browser extension.
Conduct applied security research and contribute to emerging web integrity standards and technical proposals.
Collaborate with our engineering team and external researchers to identify and address potential security threats.
Manage your own workflow while maintaining consistent communication through regular check-ins.
Participate in the full software development life cycle, including testing, building, and deploying code.

Must-haves

Extensive knowledge of web application security, including mitigating XSS attacks and understanding browser security models like the Same-Origin Policy and Content Security Policy.
A strong adversarial mindset, with experience in security auditing or participating in Capture The Flag competitions.
Proven experience in professional software development and shipping code to production.
Comfort and experience working within open source environments.
Proficiency with JavaScript, TypeScript, and web browser extension APIs.
Fluency in English.

Nice-to-haves

Practical experience working with Rust.
Familiarity with WebAssembly.

Benefits

Compensation ranging from USD $80 to $85 per hour, for up to 30 hours per week.
