We are the Freedom of the Press Foundation, and we are looking for a Senior Security Software Developer to join us on a contract basis. You will help us advance the WEBCAT browser extension, which is a vital tool designed to ensure code integrity within browser environments.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement security-focused features for the WEBCAT browser extension.
- Conduct applied security research and contribute to emerging web integrity standards and technical proposals.
- Collaborate with our engineering team and external researchers to identify and address potential security threats.
- Manage your own workflow while maintaining consistent communication through regular check-ins.
- Participate in the full software development life cycle, including testing, building, and deploying code.
Must-haves
- Extensive knowledge of web application security, including mitigating XSS attacks and understanding browser security models like the Same-Origin Policy and Content Security Policy.
- A strong adversarial mindset, with experience in security auditing or participating in Capture The Flag competitions.
- Proven experience in professional software development and shipping code to production.
- Comfort and experience working within open source environments.
- Proficiency with JavaScript, TypeScript, and web browser extension APIs.
- Fluency in English.
Nice-to-haves
- Practical experience working with Rust.
- Familiarity with WebAssembly.
