At SpiderOak, we have spent years redefining what it means to keep data truly secure. Long before the first iPhone hit the market, we were already pioneering encryption technology. We believe that the traditional approach of layering security over inherently flawed systems is broken. Instead, we build software that is secure by design. By combining end-to-end encryption with distributed ledger technology, we provide mission-critical protection for customers operating in the most hostile environments on Earth and beyond. We are looking for a talented engineer to help us continue this mission of building a foundationally secure future.
The opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Rust Engineer to join our fully remote team. In this role, you will be at the heart of our technical efforts, helping us remove central points of compromise by implementing cryptographic controls on a decentralized platform. You will have the chance to dive deep into applied cryptography, asynchronous distributed systems, and formal methods. This is an opportunity to influence the architecture of systems that protect sensitive data in orbit and on the ground, ensuring our technology remains the gold standard for security.
A day in the life
- You will dive into our existing codebase and architecture to understand our systems, eventually extending them to provide new capabilities, better performance, and enhanced security assurance.
- You will take ownership of implementing distributed services using Rust, while also providing analysis and design recommendations for middleware and complex system architectures.
- You will work closely with cross-functional teams to translate mission requirements into functional services, overseeing the integration, testing, and deployment of these solutions.
Who you are
You are a curious and creative software engineer who thrives in a collaborative, remote-first environment. You possess a strong background in software development and are comfortable working within an Agile/Scrum framework. To succeed in this role, you should have:
- Proven experience working with Rust and C++ to build reliable, maintainable code.
- A deep interest in or existing experience with cryptography and distributed systems.
- The ability to communicate effectively in English while coordinating across distributed teams.
- A proactive mindset toward system integration and architecture, with a desire to solve complex technical challenges.
Why you'll love it here
We operate as a 100% remote company, built on a culture of trust, flexibility, and mutual respect. We value your contributions and provide a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your well-being and long-term success. You can look forward to:
- Equity compensation to ensure you share in the success of the company.
- A 401k plan to help you plan for your future.
- Generous paid time off to recharge.
- Comprehensive life insurance and disability insurance coverage.
- The freedom and flexibility of a fully remote work environment.
