At Atom Computing, we are dedicated to building quantum computers that utilize arrays of optically trapped neutral atoms. Our mission is to empower our customers to reach computational breakthroughs that were previously impossible. We bring together a world-class team of engineers, scientists, and business professionals who are driven to push the boundaries of what is possible in the quantum field.
The role
We are looking for a Quantum Software Architect to join our team in a full-time, executive-level capacity. This position is based in the United States and operates on a hybrid schedule, with locations available in Austin, Texas, and Berkeley, California. In this role, you will oversee the structure and behavior of the software stack that powers our quantum systems. You will work alongside our CTO and Director of Software to define the long-term vision for our technology, ensuring our platform meets the needs of our researchers, system operators, and customers.
Core responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a talented team of domain experts while driving collaboration between product and engineering to set our technical strategy.
- Guide architectural decisions by balancing short-term trade-offs with long-term commitments to ensure our software stack remains resilient and scalable.
- Oversee the evolution of our quantum systems as we transition from simple job execution to supporting dynamic, quantum-error-corrected circuits.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you should have a strong background in software engineering and a passion for complex systems. We require the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with a Master’s degree considered a plus.
- At least 10 years of progressive experience in defining solutions and identifying technologies for highly secure, resilient architectures.
- Proficiency in Python, C++, and Rust.
- Hands-on experience with containerization platforms, specifically Docker and Kubernetes.
- A comprehensive understanding of the full system lifecycle, from initial development through deployment and ongoing operations.
- Excellent communication skills and an eagerness to build consensus across diverse teams.
Compensation and benefits
The base salary range for this position is $200,000 to $225,000, depending on your experience. Beyond the base salary, we provide a bonus plan and incentive stock options to give you an ownership stake in our success. Our benefits package includes:
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance for you and your dependents.
- Unlimited vacation time to ensure you have the rest you need.
- 401k company matching.
- Life insurance and disability coverage.
- A collaborative office environment featuring daily catered lunches, snacks, and drinks.
How to apply
If you are ready to help us shape the future of quantum computing, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your application to be considered for this opportunity. We are an equal opportunity employer and value the diverse perspectives that every team member brings to our mission.
