Picture a small, ambitious team of scientists and technologists who gather each morning in sunlit offices to decode the hidden patterns of global markets. At Aquatic we channel that shared curiosity into building trading systems that thrive in the world’s most competitive arenas, guided by rigorous research and a spirit of continuous discovery.
The opportunity
We are searching for a Lead Quantitative Researcher who will shape the next generation of our proprietary trading models. In this full-time, on-site role you will translate complex data into predictive signals, collaborate daily with engineers and senior leaders, and gradually steer independent research projects that directly influence how we trade. Your work will sit at the heart of our mission, turning academic insight into real-world performance.
A day in the life
- You might begin by exploring fresh datasets, testing hypotheses, and refining statistical or machine-learning models that forecast price movements.
- Midday often finds you pairing with software engineers to productionize promising signals, writing clean code in Python, C++, or Java and stress-testing algorithms under live market conditions.
- Afternoons are spent reviewing results with colleagues, iterating on research directions, and presenting concise findings that guide our trading decisions.
Who you are
You bring at least four years of hands-on quantitative experience and hold an advanced degree in finance, computer science, mathematics, statistics, machine learning, physics, or another scientific field. You combine deep mathematical intuition with a proven record of completing high-level statistical or applied-math research, and you are comfortable tackling data-intensive problems that lack obvious solutions. Programming fluency in Python, C++, Java, or R lets you move quickly from idea to implementation. Prior experience inside a trading environment is welcome but not required. Beyond technical skill, you demonstrate strong research hygiene, meticulous attention to detail, and the intellectual curiosity to explore uncharted questions. You communicate clearly, thrive in cross-disciplinary settings, and take genuine ownership of your work whether you are working solo or within our tight-knit team.
Why you'll love it here
The base salary for this role is anticipated to be between $150,000 and $300,000. In addition, the position may include a discretionary bonus that can form a significant part of total compensation. We also provide fully paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents, a competitive 401k plan, employer-paid life and disability insurance, wellness programs, generous paid time off, paid holidays, and competitive paid caregiver leave. Inside our offices you will find an open culture built on collaboration, meritocracy, and calm determination-an environment designed to accelerate both your professional growth and our collective success.
