At Scroll, we are dedicated to restoring trust in the digital age by developing the foundational layer for the next iteration of the internet. We leverage advanced mathematics and cryptography to build an open-source, bytecode-compatible zkEVM layer 2 solution for Ethereum. Our mission is to scale the Ethereum network while upholding our core values of credible neutrality, community-driven development, and total openness. We are a globally distributed team of researchers and builders who believe in the power of open-source software to change the world.
The role
We are looking for a Senior Protocol Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a remote position available to candidates anywhere in the world. As a foundational member of our new protocol team, you will lead high-impact projects that keep Scroll at the cutting edge of blockchain innovation. You will be responsible for designing and implementing production-ready features that push the limits of zkRollup technology and help shape the future of the Ethereum ecosystem.
Core responsibilities
- Design and implement complex, production-ready features for our open-source blockchain protocol.
- Take ownership of technical projects, such as decentralizing the sequencer, to ensure Scroll remains a leader in the industry.
- Collaborate with internal researchers and external academic partners to solve difficult technical challenges and contribute to the broader Ethereum community.
Skills and experience
To succeed in this role, you should possess a strong background in distributed systems and a passion for open-source development. We require the following qualifications:
- Proven experience designing and implementing blockchain protocols using Golang or Rust, along with a solid understanding of Solidity.
- A track record of contributing to the Ethereum ecosystem, such as authoring EIPs, contributing to node implementations like geth or Lighthouse, or publishing technical research.
- High coding standards, with a focus on writing performant, maintainable, and robust code.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in an asynchronous, cross-cultural environment.
- A proactive, independent, and humble approach to problem-solving.
- Bonus points for familiarity with EVM, L2s, rollups, cryptography, or the ability to speak Chinese.
Compensation and benefits
We believe in supporting our team members both professionally and personally. Our benefits package includes:
- The freedom of a remote work environment with flexible hours.
- A collaborative, mission-driven culture where you work alongside top-tier technical talent.
- Access to a generous paid time off policy and an annual growth budget to support your professional development.
- Support for your workspace, including a home office setup or a co-working membership allowance.
- Private healthcare options in selected countries.
How to apply
If you are a passionate engineer who thrives on autonomy and wants to make a lasting impact on the Ethereum ecosystem, we want to hear from you. Please submit your application to join our globally distributed team. We review candidates based on their talent, culture fit, and suitability for the role, and we look forward to learning more about your experience.
