Propulsion Systems Engineer at Karman+

At Karman+, we are on a mission to mine near-Earth asteroids to secure sustainable resources for space and Earth. We are looking for a hands-on Propulsion Systems Engineer to join our team in Broomfield, Colorado, to design, build, and test the fluid systems that will power our spacecraft beyond Earth orbit.

Responsibilities

• Take full ownership of the reaction control propulsion subsystem.
• Conduct fluid and thermal analysis, including heat loads and pressure drop calculations, to validate system architecture.
• Select and size critical components like valves, tanks, and filters while developing schematics and bills of materials.
• Lead the hands-on integration, testing, and troubleshooting of propulsion hardware.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and suppliers to manage procurement and ensure components meet industry and safety standards.
• Author test plans, oversee execution, and analyze performance data to drive design iterations.

Must-haves

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or a related engineering field.
• Proven experience with aerospace or spacecraft propulsion systems.
• Proficiency in CAD software and thermal or fluid simulation tools.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and propulsion fundamentals.
• Experience with hardware testing, troubleshooting, and iterative design processes.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, hardware-focused environment.
• Must meet ITAR requirements as a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with chemical spacecraft propulsion systems, such as hydrazine, cold gas, or green monopropellants.
• Direct involvement in system-level testing, propulsion integration, or environmental qualification.
• Knowledge of pressure vessel safety standards and burst testing.

The annual salary range for this position is $100,000.00 - $140,000.00.
