Are you ready to build the gear that photographers and creators rely on every single day? At Peak Design, we believe in a holistic approach to creation, where one person takes a product from the initial spark of an idea all the way to the final production run. If you are a hands-on designer who loves the challenge of balancing hardgoods and softgoods, we want to meet you.
Role at a glance
We are looking for a Mid-Level Product Designer to join our dedicated Straps and Camera Accessories team. This is a full-time, on-site position based in the San Francisco Bay Area. You will work from our Dogpatch office and workshop, where you will own the entire lifecycle of our products, from early-stage prototyping to mass production.
Your impact
- Lead the end-to-end development process, including market research, concept generation, and establishing core design requirements.
- Collaborate with industrial designers and mechanical engineers to create safe, manufacturable, and high-quality products using parametric CAD.
- Manage the full production roadmap, including building prototypes, executing test procedures, and overseeing builds through EVT, DVT, and PVT stages.
What you'll need
To be successful in this role, you should be a versatile designer with a passion for both physical mechanisms and textile construction. We value candidates who possess the following:
- A degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least 2 years of post-graduate experience in consumer product design.
- Proficiency in CAD software, specifically Onshape, and experience with manufacturing processes like injection molding and CNC milling.
- Hands-on experience with softgoods, including pattern making and sewing.
- The ability to travel to Asia 1-3 times per year to coordinate with our manufacturing partners.
- A deep appreciation for gear, particularly cameras and photography equipment.
Perks and compensation
We are committed to a transparent and thorough hiring process. Our interview journey includes a written technical screen, a Zoom-based technical interview, a short take-home assignment, and a final in-person round at our headquarters. We look forward to seeing your unique approach to design.
