Aether Biomachines is building the future of industrial production through peptide-based nanotechnology. We are seeking a Process Development Engineer to join our team in Menlo Park, California, as we develop the world's most advanced high-throughput robotic laboratory to power deep learning algorithms.
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize innovative mineral extraction processes, specifically focusing on lithium and other critical materials.
- Manage the full project lifecycle for direct lithium extraction systems, from initial design through to execution.
- Select appropriate equipment and design systems for both pilot and commercial-scale operations.
- Perform process modeling and simulation using Aspen software to ensure peak operational efficiency.
- Lead the development and successful scale-up of pilot systems to commercial production levels.
- Maintain strict compliance with safety protocols, environmental regulations, and industry standards.
- Collaborate across R&D and operations teams to integrate engineering solutions into our broader platform.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying and implementing innovative technical solutions.
Must-haves
- At least 1 year of experience in process engineering, ideally within a hydrometallurgical environment.
- Professional background in the mining, oil, or gas industries.
- Strong technical knowledge of separation processes, filtration, and packed bed adsorbent columns.
- Proven experience designing prototype unit operations for direct lithium extraction.
- Hands-on proficiency with Aspen modeling and simulation tools.
- Demonstrated success in building pilot systems and scaling them to commercial operations.
- Strong project management and leadership abilities to oversee complex engineering initiatives.
- Fluency in English.

The salary range for this position is $155,000 to $190,000 USD.
