Picture a team that grew from a UC Berkeley research lab into a venture-backed company trusted by the world’s largest technology and consumer brands. We power the data layer that lets analytics and AI workloads reach files and objects instantly, no matter which cloud, region, or cluster they live in. Our customers-Meta, Uber, TikTok, Alibaba, Walmart and others-rely on us to cut complexity and cost while they chase the next breakthrough in big data.
The opportunity
As our next Principal Solutions Engineer you will sit at the intersection of our customers’ toughest data problems and the platform we built to solve them. You will shape how leading enterprises adopt Alluxio, guiding them from first conversation through proof-of-concept and into production. In doing so you will help define best practices for data orchestration at petabyte scale and influence the direction of our product.
A day in the life
- You open the week by joining a discovery call with a global retailer’s data-platform leads, listening closely to their latency and governance pain points before sketching an initial architecture on the whiteboard.
- Mid-week you take ownership of a multi-cloud proof-of-concept, scripting deployment steps in Python and shell, validating performance numbers, and iterating with the customer until the results clearly show the value of intelligent caching and unified namespace.
- By Friday you are running a workshop for the customer’s engineering team, sharing recorded best-practice playbooks and gathering feedback that you bring straight to our product managers and engineers so the next release solves problems they actually face.
Who you are
You bring roughly eight or more years of hands-on experience as a solutions engineer, solutions architect, or technical account manager, and you have guided enterprise deals from first meeting through closed-won. You are fluent in database architecture, Linux networking and storage, orchestration frameworks, and the realities of running distributed systems at scale. Shell scripting, Java, Python, and SQL are daily tools for you, and you can translate their output into crisp stories for both engineers and C-level stakeholders. A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field is required; an advanced degree is welcome. You are comfortable presenting in English and collaborating across distributed teams in a hybrid workplace.
Why you'll love it here
We offer a salary range of $225,000 - $300,000 OTE for this full-time role in the United States, along with equity compensation in the form of stock options and a comprehensive benefits package. You will work in a hybrid model that balances focused collaboration with personal flexibility, and you will join colleagues who are as excited about elegant infrastructure as they are about the impact it creates for customers around the globe.
