Principal Software Engineer at Bluecore, Inc.

We are Bluecore, a Retail Performance Cloud that uses artificial intelligence to help more than 400 retail brands deliver personalized marketing campaigns in seconds. Our platform unifies shopper and product data, powers predictive models, and activates one-to-one experiences across email, SMS, onsite, and paid media for clients such as Staples, Tommy Hilfiger, and Best Buy Canada.

Responsibilities

• Design, architect, and deliver scalable, reliable systems that create measurable impact across one or more engineering domains.
• Partner with product managers, data scientists, and engineers to ship high-quality products on time.
• Serve as a technical mentor and role model, promoting engineering values and helping teammates grow.
• Teach, document, and coach to shorten ramp-up time for new and existing team members.
• Plan and lead large, complex projects with intertwined dependencies that push the limits of what the team and business can achieve.
• Identify new technology opportunities and share ideas through presentations, specs, and documentation.
• Shape company-wide technical strategy and build consensus among senior engineering and company leadership.
• Represent Bluecore Engineering both internally and in the wider technical community.

Must-haves

• 14+ years of relevant professional experience, ideally in a similar industry or technology space.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Sciences, Electronics, Mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.
• Expert-level programming skills in Go, Python, C++, Java, or similar languages.
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Google Cloud.
• Proven ability to build large, complex distributed or data-driven systems from concept through production, with repeated releases focused on scale, reliability, and cost efficiency.
• Recognized expertise in one or more domains such as stream processing, big data, feature development, or product engineering, plus active contributions to external technical communities.
• Experience leading major codebase refactors or system migrations that improve cleanliness and performance.
• Track record of owning company-level technical issues, planning resolutions, and proactively managing risk.
• History of creating technical roadmaps and estimates that have driven product and business growth over multiple quarters.
• Experience thriving in a high-growth startup or building a new team or function inside a larger organization.
• Strong technical mentorship skills, including guiding engineers toward greater leadership and sharing best practices in code and design.
• Ability to map cross-team dependencies, remove blockers, and implement process improvements that sustain efficiency.
• Comfort communicating directly with external customers about critical production issues and collaborating with internal customer-success and support teams on fast resolutions.
• Proficiency in English.
