The role
We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis. This is an executive-level position for a seasoned professional with over 15 years of experience in software development. You will work in a hybrid capacity, balancing remote work with in-person collaboration at our headquarters in Austin, Texas. In this role, you will act as a key technical leader, bridging the gap between complex business requirements and scalable, reliable software architecture.
Core responsibilities
- Champion best practices and scalable architectural patterns, ensuring these standards are adopted across the organization to maintain a reliable codebase.
- Lead large-scale technical initiatives that balance immediate practical needs with our long-term architectural vision, while securing buy-in from both engineering and leadership teams.
- Mentor other engineers and serve as a technical leader, fostering professional growth and raising the overall quality of our engineering output through shared expertise.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you should possess deep expertise in software design and a proven track record of leading cross-functional initiatives. We value candidates who can navigate ambiguity and advocate for solutions with a strong sense of ownership.
- A relevant degree or equivalent experience with at least 15 years in the software engineering field.
- Expertise in software design patterns, test automation, observability, and debugging strategies.
- Strong knowledge of data engineering principles and security best practices.
- Experience with modern technologies such as JVM-based languages, PHP, MySQL, Postgres, DynamoDB, Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, AWS, and Elasticsearch.
- The ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A deep understanding of Domain Driven Design and a test-first mindset.
