What is this role?
We are searching for a Principal SEO to lead the organic growth strategy for our marketplace. This is a full-time, executive-level position that can be performed remotely. You will be a key influencer, working alongside our teams to shape the people, processes, and technology that drive our long-term vision. This is a perfect opportunity for a seasoned leader to make a significant impact on a highly trafficked platform used by freelancers and clients across the globe.
What will you do?
- Develop and own the overarching SEO strategy, ensuring you secure buy-in from executive leadership while collaborating with product, engineering, and marketing teams to enhance the user experience.
- Manage our SEO team from both a technical and content delivery perspective, focusing on driving growth metrics for clients who begin their journey on Upwork.
- Monitor the evolving search landscape and competitor activity to inform our roadmap, while also partnering with the SEM team to create a cohesive keyword strategy.
What makes you a great fit?
To be successful in this role, you should have a deep background in search engine optimization and a passion for strategic growth. We are looking for someone who meets the following criteria:
- At least 8 years of experience in SEO, ideally with large-scale consumer or marketplace websites.
- Proven ability to organize cross-functional stakeholders around clear objectives and key results.
- Expertise in using Google Search Console and professional SEO tools such as SEMrush, Ahrefs, or Screaming Frog.
- A strong track record of using data-driven insights to improve search visibility and user experience.
- Fluency in English.
