Principal Rust Engineer at ExpressVPN

We are currently looking for a Principal Rust Engineer to join our core VPN team on a full-time, on-site basis in Hong Kong. Since 2009, we have established ourselves as a global leader in online privacy and security, serving millions of customers across more than one hundred countries. Our team of over 700 professionals is dedicated to protecting user data, and we are proud of our own open-source VPN protocol, Lightway. In this role, you will help us push the boundaries of networking performance by working on both our server infrastructure and client applications. Responsibilities

• Design and implement high-quality, modular code that remains easy to maintain and scale over the long term.
• Lead technical initiatives by conducting prototyping, research, and development to de-risk complex projects and provide clear architectural guidance.
• Mentor fellow developers through high-quality code reviews and by setting a strong example for engineering best practices and automated testing.

Requirements

• Proven professional or open-source experience working with Rust.
• Strong background in IP networking, including both low-level sockets and application-layer programming.
• Commitment to TDD and automated testing, alongside experience working within Agile environments.
• Excellent communication skills and a logical approach to solving complex technical problems.
• For our Hong Kong office, you must hold a university degree in a related field and possess at least two years of relevant work experience.
• Bonus points if you have experience with C++, Go, cryptography, or platform-native networking internals on Linux, Windows, Android, or Apple systems.
