At Karius, we are on a mission to revolutionize how infectious diseases are diagnosed. By combining next-generation sequencing with proprietary data analysis, we identify over 1,000 human pathogens from a single blood sample in just one business day. We are unlocking the potential of microbial cell-free DNA to help doctors solve challenging medical cases, accelerate clinical trials, and ultimately reduce patient suffering on a global scale.
The role
We are seeking a Principal Platform Architect to join our team in a full-time, executive-level capacity. This is a critical leadership position where you will define the strategic direction for the computing and data infrastructure that powers our research and engineering efforts. You will work closely with our leadership team to build and operate an extensible, secure, and scalable platform, ensuring our technology remains at the forefront of the life sciences industry. This role is available as a hybrid position based in Redwood City, California.
Core responsibilities
- Lead architectural projects from initial concept through to final delivery, ensuring all work aligns with our budget and regulatory standards.
- Create and maintain architectural blueprints, frameworks, and guidelines that govern the development and operation of our platform.
- Ensure our infrastructure is cloud-vendor agnostic and capable of global deployment while strictly adhering to regional privacy and security regulations.
Skills and experience
To succeed in this role, you should bring a deep technical background and a proven track record of leadership. We are looking for candidates who possess the following qualifications:
- A minimum of 15 years of engineering experience, with at least 10 years dedicated to leading the development and operation of distributed systems and cloud-native platforms.
- Hands-on proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform and cloud-native technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong knowledge of NIST security standards and experience implementing cloud security controls.
- Experience with DevOps and GitOps workflows to maintain high-quality code delivery.
- A B.S. or M.S. degree in a relevant engineering or science field, such as Computer Science, Genetics, or Biomedical Engineering. A Ph.D. is considered a significant advantage.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical strategies to both engineering and business stakeholders.
Compensation and benefits
We are committed to supporting our team members through a flexible work environment. This role offers the following benefit:
- Hybrid work arrangements to balance office collaboration with personal flexibility.
How to apply
If you are a humble, curious, and collaborative leader who is passionate about solving complex problems to make a meaningful impact on global health, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your application to join our innovative team and help us drive the future of infectious disease diagnostics.
