At Karius, we are on a mission to transform how infectious diseases are diagnosed. By combining next-generation sequencing with proprietary data analysis, our team identifies over 1,000 human pathogens from a single blood sample in about one business day. We are looking for a Principal Platform Architect to join us in this effort, helping us unlock the potential of microbial cell-free DNA to solve challenging medical cases and reduce patient suffering globally. If you are a humble, curious, and collaborative engineer who thrives on solving complex problems with real-world impact, we would love to have you on our team.
What you'll be doing
- You will lead architectural projects from concept to completion, ensuring that our systems meet high standards for quality, performance, and regulatory compliance.
- You will develop and drive a technical roadmap to build an extensible, secure, and scalable platform that empowers our R&D and engineering teams to be as productive as possible.
- You will design and document architectural blueprints and frameworks, ensuring our platform remains cloud-vendor agnostic and capable of global deployment while adhering to strict privacy and security standards.
What you'll bring
To be successful in this role, you should have a strong background in engineering and a passion for building high-quality, cloud-native platforms. We are looking for the following qualifications:
- Over 15 years of engineering experience, with at least 10 years focused on leading the development and operation of distributed systems and cloud-native platforms.
- Deep technical proficiency in Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, and various Cloud Services.
- Hands-on experience implementing security standards like NIST CSF/SSDF and working with DevOps and GitOps methodologies.
- A solid understanding of microservices architecture, failure management, and distributed systems design.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical strategies to both business and technical stakeholders.
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Statistics, or a related field, with a Ph.D. being a significant plus.
- Fluency in English.
What you'll get
We are committed to supporting our team members and providing an environment where you can do your best work. As part of our team, you will receive:
- The flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement.
- The opportunity to influence the core technology of a company operating at the cutting edge of infectious disease diagnostics.
- A collaborative, high-performing culture that values innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.
