We are looking for a Principal Materials Scientist to join our team in a full-time capacity. At iota Biosciences, a subsidiary of Astellas Pharma US, we are pioneering the field of bioelectronic medicine. Our team develops proprietary technology that uses ultrasonic energy to power and communicate with custom implantable devices, offering new ways to treat chronic diseases without pharmaceuticals. As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in the design and development of our innovative neurostimulation devices, helping us bring life-changing solutions to the clinic.
Responsibilities
- Research and develop biocompatible materials for active implantable devices, focusing on mechanical properties, biostability, and overall biocompatibility.
- Perform detailed material characterization using analytical tools such as FTIR, DSC, TGA, GPS, and SEC to ensure optimal performance.
- Manage biocompatibility testing protocols in alignment with ISO 10993 standards to ensure full regulatory compliance and adherence to industry best practices.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should possess a strong background in materials science and a passion for medical innovation. We require the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field with at least 12 years of experience, or a Master's degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience.
- At least 8 years of dedicated experience in materials research and development, ideally within the medical device sector with a focus on active implants.
- Expertise in analytical techniques, including FTIR, DSC, TGA, GPS, and SEC.
- Comprehensive knowledge of ISO 10993 standards and experience with toxicology and risk assessment methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the communication skills necessary to thrive in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment.
