Our Central Tech team delivers integrated technology and security services that help our colleagues and grantees move faster and more safely. We are now hiring a Principal IT Technical Program Manager to lead the strategy and day-to-day operations of our high-performance computing clusters, both on-premises and in the cloud, on a full-time hybrid basis.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the health and performance of HPC clusters across multiple platforms, ensuring resources stay available and efficient for every research workload.
- Lead capacity planning efforts by analyzing current usage, forecasting future demand, and producing clear reports that guide investment decisions.
- Partner with engineering, science, and leadership teams to onboard new projects, prioritize competing requests, and keep stakeholders aligned on resource allocation.
Requirements
- Senior-level experience managing both cloud-based and on-premises HPC clusters at scale.
- Deep knowledge of compute infrastructure, capacity planning, and resource management in high-demand environments.
- Proven ability to communicate clearly with technical teams and senior leadership, including navigating difficult conversations and setting realistic expectations.
- Hands-on familiarity with automation tools and processes that bring transparency and fairness to resource allocation.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the flexibility to work across multiple departments and time zones.
- Preferred: direct experience with GPU clusters and AI/ML workloads, plus a track record of building scalable processes in multi-tenant settings.
What we offer
The base pay range for this role is $200,000 - $300,000. In addition, we provide a generous 401k match, commuter benefits, relocation assistance when moving to the Bay Area, and a hybrid work schedule that balances in-office collaboration with personal flexibility.
