PeopleFun is an award-winning mobile game studio based in Dallas, and we are currently looking for a Principal Game Server Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis. As part of the AppLovin family, we leverage world-class infrastructure to support our titles, which are enjoyed by over 25 million players every month. Our studio is led by industry veterans who prioritize collaboration, creativity, and teamwork. In this executive-level role, you will take full ownership of the server architecture for our flagship title, Wordscapes, ensuring our systems scale effectively for our global player base. This position is remote, though candidates must reside in California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Texas, or Washington State.
Responsibilities
- Architect and implement robust, scalable core gameplay systems that support millions of concurrent users while adhering to industry-leading engineering standards.
- Take full ownership of our server infrastructure by applying a DevOps mindset to maintenance and development.
- Design and build internal tools and services that empower our teams to manage customer support, moderation, and live operations effectively.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of professional experience in server development, specifically with backend services that have successfully scaled to millions of users.
- Deep expertise in cloud technologies, including platforms like GCP, Azure, or AWS.
- Strong technical proficiency in distributed systems, database management, and caching strategies.
- Proven experience with DevOps practices and a solid understanding of game engines like Unity or Unreal.
- A collaborative spirit that aligns with our company values, combined with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts across cross-functional teams.
What we offer

The expected base salary range for this position is $140,000 to $238,000, with final offers determined by factors such as location, skills, and experience.
