At Horizen Labs, we are on a mission to scale decentralized networks by lowering the costs of zero-knowledge proofs. Since our founding in 2019, we have dedicated ourselves to building a more secure and equitable digital world. We focus on creating next-generation, modular architecture that enhances blockchain efficiency without sacrificing security. As we continue to set new benchmarks for performance and cost-effectiveness, we are looking for a visionary Principal Engineer to join our global, distributed team. We value diversity and empowerment, and we offer a hybrid work environment that allows us to tap into top-tier talent across the globe, including our satellite offices in New York City and Milan.
What you'll be doing
- Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of core components within our blockchain ecosystem, including L1 protocols, L2 scaling frameworks, and cryptographic toolkits.
- Define the technical roadmap and organizational goals, ensuring that our engineering efforts remain efficient, high-quality, and aligned with our long-term mission.
- Mentor and guide engineers across all levels while working hands-on to ship mission-critical products and resolve complex technical trade-offs.
What you'll bring
To succeed in this executive-level role, you should possess a deep technical background and a passion for decentralized technology. We are looking for the following qualifications:
- Over 10 years of software development experience, with at least 5 years in a technical leadership capacity such as a Senior or Staff Engineer.
- Extensive hands-on experience with major blockchain protocols, including a strong grasp of applied cryptography, consensus algorithms, and zero-knowledge proofs.
- Expert-level proficiency in Rust and C++, with a proven track record of delivering production-grade code to Mainnet.
- A solid understanding of system architecture and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Fluency in English to effectively collaborate with our international team.
- A degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
What you'll get
For candidates based in New York City, the annual base salary for this position ranges from USD 180,000 to USD 200,000, depending on your specific experience and background. In addition to competitive compensation, you will enjoy:
- The flexibility of a hybrid work model.
- The opportunity to work in a remote-friendly environment.
- A stimulating, innovation-focused culture where you can influence the future of blockchain technology.
