At Teck, we serve as Canada’s largest diversified mining company, providing the world with essential resources while maintaining a deep commitment to safety and sustainability. We take pride in our history of driving innovation and using cutting-edge technology to shape a better future. We are currently looking for a passionate leader to join our team and help us build assets that support the global transition to a low-carbon economy.
What is this role?
We are seeking a Principal Engineer to join our organization in a full-time, executive-level capacity. This is a hybrid position that offers flexibility for candidates based in the U.S. to work remotely, with the expectation of some infrequent travel to our corporate office in Vancouver. You will report directly to the Director of Engineering and play a pivotal role in guiding our projects toward a sustainable and safe future.
What will you do?
- Act as a courageous safety leader who champions our environmental rules and procedures while guiding project teams to eliminate hazards through sustainable design solutions.
- Oversee the implementation of our Safety and Sustainability through Design standard, serving as a primary resource for sharing best practices across our entire project portfolio.
- Coordinate critical design review activities, such as HAZOPs, HAZIDs, and Safety Integrity Level Assessments, while managing relationships with our technical service providers and consultants.
What makes you a great fit?
To succeed in this role, you should possess a strong background in engineering and a commitment to our organizational values. We are looking for the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in engineering and current registration or eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia.
- Over 15 years of experience in process or design safety for major infrastructure and mining projects, including at least 10 years focused specifically on sustainable design.
- Proven expertise in hazard identification, project management systems, and the ability to coordinate technical teams and multiple consultants.
- Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to deliver technical presentations, write clear reports, and build strong, collaborative relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- A leadership style characterized by integrity, agility, and the ability to inspire commitment in others while building our legacy of social and environmental responsibility.
What's in it for you?
Joining our team means becoming part of a collaborative culture that values your personal and professional growth. We offer a comprehensive total rewards program designed to support your overall well-being, which includes:
- Hybrid work arrangements to support work-life balance.
- Comprehensive health coverage, including dental insurance, vision insurance, and extended health care.
- Financial security through life insurance, disability insurance, an employer-paid pension plan, and a profit-share plan.
- Generous paid time off, including vacation, holidays, and sick leave.
- Additional support through an annual performance bonus, health and personal spending accounts, and an employee assistance program.
