We are Moonpig Group, an international leader in online gifting with brands including Moonpig, Greetz and Buyagift. Our scalable, data-rich platform powers rapid innovation across multiple markets, and we are now looking for a Principal Engineer to help shape the technical direction of the entire organisation.
Responsibilities
- Define and embed company-wide technical principles, patterns and practices that raise engineering standards and speed of delivery.
- Provide architectural guidance using a systems-thinking approach, collaborating directly with engineers to design and deliver solutions rather than operating from an ivory tower.
- Write production code across services and features while mentoring senior engineers and modelling best practice.
- Represent Moonpig externally through meetups, conferences and technical blogging, and internally through talks, training and culture-building initiatives.
- Influence the technical roadmap of multiple teams and the wider engineering organisation through leadership by example and persuasion.
Must-haves
- Senior-level experience building and operating large-scale systems, with a track record of setting technical direction that others follow.
- Hands-on experience with Node.js (or C# / .NET Core) and a willingness to work across both ecosystems.
- Proven ownership of code from build through CI/CD, deployment, monitoring and production support.
- Experience designing scalable, serverless architectures on AWS and an understanding of the associated trade-offs.
- Strong collaboration skills within full-stack, cross-functional teams and the ability to lead through influence rather than mandate.
- Fluency in English.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with TypeScript, Terraform, GraphQL and React.
- Familiarity with clean architecture, test-driven development and pair programming.
- Previous external advocacy through blogging, speaking or open-source contributions.
Benefits
- Hybrid working with no mandatory office days and only occasional travel to London or Manchester.
- Flexible arrangements that recognise individual circumstances and commitments outside work.
- A supportive, values-driven culture with active employee-led committees focused on inclusion and belonging.
