Principal Architect, Platform Engineering at Verygoodsecurity

VGS stands as the global leader in payment tokenization. We empower large banks, fintech innovators, and growing merchants by providing a universal token vault that integrates directly into their technology stacks. Our platform simplifies the complexities of payment data management, including PCI compliance, card issuance, and payment orchestration. By tokenizing sensitive information, we help our partners reduce their compliance scope and unlock new business opportunities through our secure proxies, APIs, and data orchestration tools. We are currently seeking a Principal Architect to join our Platform Engineering team and help build the reliable, scalable foundation that powers all VGS applications.

Key outcomes

• Design and champion best practices for cloud infrastructure in collaboration with our Platform Engineering teams.
• Partner with our CTO and leadership to develop holistic technology solutions that align with product management goals.
• Create comprehensive architecture blueprints, design documents, and clear documentation regarding technical decisions and trade-offs.
• Lead hands-on development for prototypes, proof-of-concepts, and production-ready code.
• Provide mentorship to engineering staff to elevate architectural standards and best practices.
• Oversee the full software lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Foster a culture of high code quality through automation, rigorous testing, and thorough code reviews.

Requirements

• At least 12 years of professional experience in software architecture, design, and development within a Cloud SaaS environment.
• Deep expertise in cloud-native architecture, microservices, and Infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, and CDK.
• Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines including CircleCI, GitHub Actions, and Argo, along with GitOps methodologies.
• Strong technical foundation in API Gateway, Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, Java, Python, and the Spring Framework.
• Proven experience with observability solutions like Grafana, Honeycomb, Prometheus, DataDog, and Open Telemetry.
• Practical background in DevOps, SRE, configuration management, and release management.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
