Shearer's is a premier contract manufacturer and private label supplier in the North American snack industry. Headquartered in Massillon, Ohio, we operate 17 state-of-the-art facilities across the United States and Canada, including one of the industry's first LEED platinum-certified manufacturing plants. We are looking for a Packaging Equipment Process Specialist to join our team in a hybrid capacity, helping us maintain the high quality of our diverse snack products while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and safety.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise and direction for the production and packaging of high-quality snack foods.
- Troubleshoot issues related to packaging designs, materials, and manufacturing processes to resolve bottlenecks.
- Apply lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methods to enhance reliability, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Lead the commercialization of new products and assist in the design and implementation of new equipment.
- Conduct mass balances and evaluate throughput rates to identify production limitations.
- Develop and maintain process control documentation and engineering procedures.
- Coach and mentor team members, identifying training needs and fostering a collaborative environment.
- Travel to various plant locations as needed to provide on-site support and technical guidance.
Must-haves
- At least 5 years of experience in a packaging-related field, including hands-on experience with equipment troubleshooting.
- Strong technical knowledge of seasoning systems, vertical form/fill/seal machines, multi-head weighing units, and packaging automation.
- Proven experience with continuous improvement tools such as 5S, Total Production Maintenance, defect handling, and quick changeover.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to teach and coach others effectively.
- Proficiency in English.
- A 2-year technical degree, a 4-year bachelor’s degree in engineering or science, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
Nice-to-haves
- Prior experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a manufacturing environment.
- Advanced understanding of statistical procedures for root cause analysis.
