Shearer's is a premier contract manufacturer and private label supplier in the North American snack industry. Based in Massillon, Ohio, we operate 17 state-of-the-art facilities across the United States and Canada, including one of the industry's first LEED platinum certified manufacturing plants. We are looking for a Packaging Equipment Process Specialist to join our team in a hybrid capacity to help us maintain our high standards for quality snacks like kettle chips, tortilla chips, and extruded products.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise for primary and secondary packaging, including seasoning systems, vertical form/fill/seal machines, and case packers.
- Troubleshoot production bottlenecks and material issues to improve manufacturing efficiency.
- Implement continuous improvement and lean manufacturing methods to boost reliability and reduce costs.
- Lead, coach, and develop team members to improve their technical skills and equipment knowledge.
- Conduct mass balances and assist in the design and implementation of new equipment.
- Prepare process control documentation and ensure all products meet our rigorous quality standards.
- Train site subject matter experts and engineers on equipment operation and practical applications.
- Travel to various plant locations as needed to provide hands-on support and project oversight.
Must-haves
- At least 5 years of experience in a packaging-related field, including hands-on work with new and existing equipment.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot seasoning systems, multi-head weighing units, conveyance systems, and packaging automation.
- Strong background in continuous improvement and lean tools such as 5S, Total Production Maintenance, and quick changeover processes.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead teams and mentor staff.
- Strong critical thinking and systems analysis skills to resolve operational errors.
- Proficiency in English.
Nice-to-haves
- A 2-year technical degree or a 4-year bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related field.
