At Holepunch, we are reimagining the digital landscape by creating a peer-to-peer development platform that eliminates the need for traditional server infrastructure. Our technology allows developers to build and deploy applications directly from their machines, ensuring that users maintain complete ownership and privacy of their data. We have already begun to showcase the potential of this decentralized future through Keet, our own peer-to-peer communications application. Our stack is powered by Hypercore, a robust Node.js framework designed to handle complex peer-to-peer connections and data replication with the efficiency of BitTorrent.
About the Role
We are currently looking for a Senior P2P Node.js Engineer to join our team in a full-time, remote capacity. In this position, you will play a vital role in expanding and strengthening our core networking and storage primitives. If you are passionate about building high-performance, decentralized systems and want to help us push the boundaries of what is possible without servers, we would love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance the core networking and storage primitives that power our peer-to-peer platform.
- Optimize complex network protocols to ensure high performance and reliability across our decentralized ecosystem.
- Collaborate on the architecture of our Node.js-based technology stack to support seamless, serverless application deployment.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should bring a deep technical background and a passion for distributed systems. We are looking for the following qualifications:
- Extensive expertise in peer-to-peer protocols such as Kademlia, BitTorrent, or libp2p.
- Advanced proficiency in JavaScript, specifically for implementing high-performance networking code.
- A comprehensive understanding of UDP and TCP/IP networking, including techniques for NAT traversal.
- Proven experience in building custom binary protocols and serialization formats.
- Familiarity with cryptographic primitives used to secure peer-to-peer communications.
- Strong skills in performance profiling and the optimization of networked systems.
- Ideally, five or more years of experience building production-grade distributed or peer-to-peer systems.
- Bonus points for knowledge of V8 internals, libuv, asynchronous I/O in C, or experience contributing to open-source networking projects.
Location
This position is fully remote and open to candidates located anywhere.
Compensation and Benefits
We believe in providing a flexible work environment to support our team members. As part of our commitment to our staff, this role offers the following benefit:
- Remote work flexibility.
