The opportunity

We are looking for an Optical Test and Characterization Engineer to join our team in San Mateo, California. In this role, you will be at the heart of our hardware development, working directly with our optical design, mechanical engineering, and manufacturing teams. You will report to the VP of Engineering and play a vital role in evaluating new architectures and components for our near-eye display systems. This is a chance to apply your expertise to revolutionary technology in a fast-growing field where your contributions will directly impact the quality and performance of our products.

A day in the life

• You will develop and implement rigorous testing methodologies to characterize optical components and micro-displays, such as LCoS, DLP, and uLED systems.
• You will assemble and evaluate prototypes, focusing on key performance indicators like image quality, MTF, light polarization, and thermal characteristics.
• You will collaborate with our design team to define performance metrics and work alongside our manufacturing partners to ensure these high standards are maintained during production.

Who you are

You are a motivated professional with at least 3 years of experience in an optical test or characterization environment. You possess a strong interest in the augmented reality space and enjoy solving complex problems using a data-driven approach. You are comfortable working with scientific programming languages like Python, Matlab, or C++, and you have a solid understanding of how to characterize optical systems, including polarization and colorimetry. You are a curious, humble team player who is always ready to ask, "How can I help?" You hold a Bachelor’s degree in optical engineering or a related field, and you are proficient in English.
