At Modern Meadow, we are tackling one of the most urgent challenges of our time. We believe that the materials defining our daily lives should not come at the cost of the planet. By looking to nature for inspiration and using cutting-edge technology, we create beautiful, high-performing, and sustainable materials that prove you do not have to sacrifice quality for environmental responsibility. We are looking for a visionary leader to join our mission and help us transform the future of manufacturing.
The opportunity
We are seeking an Operations Manager to join our executive team. This is a pivotal role where you will bridge the gap between our innovative product development and real-world manufacturing. You will serve as our primary authority on leather production, ensuring that our synthetic leather meets the highest standards of excellence while working closely with our partner tanneries. If you are passionate about sustainable technology and have a deep background in traditional manufacturing, you will find this role to be a perfect match for your expertise.
A day in the life
- You will oversee the entire product development lifecycle at our partner tanneries, actively troubleshooting production issues and refining our processes to ensure consistent, high-quality outcomes.
- You will act as our internal subject matter expert, providing critical guidance on chemistry and production techniques while collaborating with our technical teams to optimize our synthetic leather offerings.
- You will manage the quality assurance process from start to finish, implementing methodologies like APQP to ensure every batch adheres to our rigorous specifications while also supporting supply chain logistics.
Who you are
You are a seasoned professional with at least 15 years of experience in the leather industry. You possess a comprehensive understanding of the entire production process, from the wet end to final finishing. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working independently and can build strong, collaborative relationships with our external partners. You should be fluent in English and ready to travel internationally for up to 50 percent of your time, while also maintaining a regular presence at our headquarters in Nutley, New Jersey. A degree in Leather Technology or Chemical Engineering is preferred, as is a genuine excitement for sustainable alternatives to traditional materials.
Why you'll love it here
We are committed to the total well-being of our team members and offer a robust suite of benefits designed to support your professional and personal life. You will enjoy a culture that values growth and balance, including:
- Equity compensation to ensure you share in our collective success.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance plans.
- Retirement planning with 401k matching.
- Flexible hours and paid time off, plus a company-wide winter break to recharge.
- Commuter benefits and disability or life insurance coverage.
- Support for your family through fertility benefits and equal paid parental leave.
- Additional peace of mind through identity theft and legal services.
