Picture a global team of curious minds who believe finance teams deserve tools that feel as natural as the spreadsheets they already love. At Planful, we build the leading cloud platform that helps more than 1,300 organizations-from 23andMe and Bose to the Boston Red Sox-plan, close, and report with greater speed and accuracy. Backed by Vector Capital, we continue to push the frontier of financial performance management, and we are now looking for a senior engineer who can extend that power straight into Microsoft Excel.
The opportunity
As our MS Excel Plugin Developer, you will design and evolve the add-ins that let customers move seamlessly between Planful’s cloud environment and the spreadsheets they rely on every day. Your work will sit at the heart of our product experience, turning complex data flows into intuitive Excel interactions that thousands of finance professionals use to close books faster and plan with confidence.
A day in the life
- Partner with product managers, designers, and customer-facing teams to translate real user needs into clear technical requirements for new or improved Excel plug-ins.
- Write, test, and refine code using VBA, COM, and .NET technologies to build custom functions, user interfaces, and data integrations that feel native inside Excel.
- Diagnose performance issues, optimize compatibility across Excel versions, and publish clear documentation so both internal teams and end users can install, configure, and troubleshoot with ease.
Who you are
You bring at least eight years of professional software development experience, including deep hands-on work creating and maintaining Microsoft Excel plug-ins. You are fluent in VBA, COM, and the .NET Framework, and you understand the Excel object model, event-driven programming, and the nuances of COM, XLL, or Office JS add-ins. You have a track record of automating data manipulation and reporting tasks, and you apply sound engineering practices to deliver reliable, maintainable solutions. Strong analytical thinking, clear communication, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment round out your profile. Professional fluency in English is required, and the role is based on-site in India.
