Welcome to Solestial, where we are redefining how the space industry generates power. We specialize in ultra-thin silicon solar cells that actually self-cure radiation damage while operating in space. Our flexible, lightweight panels are designed to last for a decade in low Earth orbit, and because we use automated manufacturing, we can produce them at a fraction of the cost of traditional options. We are currently powering the new space economy, from satellite constellations to future utility-scale infrastructure, and we would love for you to join our mission.
What is this role?
We are looking for a Senior Materials and Processes Engineer to join our team on a full-time, on-site basis in the United States. This is a key position where you will lead the development of our manufacturing methods. You will work with a high degree of independence, using your technical expertise to implement material solutions that ensure our solar modules perform perfectly in the harsh environment of space.
What will you do?
- Develop and deploy both conventional and innovative material solutions to ensure our solar modules meet all performance and qualification requirements.
- Take charge of selecting and evaluating materials, specifically focusing on polymers, adhesives, thermal interface materials, and insulation systems.
- Author internal material and process specifications to support our manufacturing workflows and guarantee the highest quality standards for our hardware.
What makes you a great fit?
To be successful in this role, you should have a strong background in materials science or chemical engineering. We are looking for someone who meets the following criteria:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, though an advanced degree is preferred.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in materials and processes engineering, ideally within the space or solar energy sectors.
- Deep expertise in material characterization and testing, particularly with polymers, adhesives, and thermal interface materials.
- Proven experience in creating manufacturing specifications and managing testing programs, including hardware certification.
- A solid understanding of how to manage supplier relationships, from initial selection to ongoing performance evaluations.
- Fluency in English to ensure clear communication across our technical teams.
What's in it for you?
We believe in taking care of our team members as they build the future of energy. You can look forward to the following benefits:
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage starting on your first day.
- A 401k plan that includes an employer match of up to 4 percent.
- Paid time off, which includes 15 days of leave, 10 paid holidays, and an annual holiday break.
- Employer-paid short-term and long-term disability coverage.
- Employer-sponsored life insurance.
- The unique opportunity to see your work literally go to space.
