At Volta Labs, we are on a mission to reshape the future of genomics. Based in Boston, our venture-backed biotech startup is dedicated to making the extraction of vital biological information as simple as pressing a button. Our flagship product, Callisto, is already helping scientists process samples faster and providing patients with better access to critical genetic data. We sit at the unique intersection of science and engineering, and we are looking for curious, driven individuals to join our team of innovators who love to collaborate and push the boundaries of robotics, biology, and design.
The opportunity
We are currently bringing our platform to early-adopting customers and have made the strategic decision to handle our manufacturing in-house. This approach ensures the highest quality for our instruments and allows our team to keep experimenting. As a Manufacturing Assembly Technician, you will be a vital part of our production team. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of our instruments, from initial assembly and calibration to rigorous testing. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys the challenge of working with complex electromechanical systems and takes pride in knowing their hands are building the technology of tomorrow.
A day in the life
- You will build our instruments from the ground up, performing precise calibration, testing, and quality control checks.
- You will manage the logistics of packaging and shipping these machines to customer laboratories.
- During downtime, you will support the production of consumables, which involves more dextrous, hands-on assembly work.
Who you are
We are looking for a self-starter who is comfortable working in an on-site, full-time capacity at our Boston Seaport office. You should have a high school diploma or GED, with an associate degree or technical diploma preferred. Candidates with five or more years of military experience in testing and troubleshooting large platforms are also encouraged to apply.
Your background should include:
- One to two years of experience in a manufacturing environment working with electronics, robotics, or mechanical components.
- Proficiency in debugging and repairing electrical components, including soldering and PCB reworks.
- Strong skills in using common hand tools and industry-standard nomenclature.
- The ability to use spreadsheets for data analysis and a knack for documenting work instructions and testing procedures.
- The physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work while standing for extended periods.
- Fluency in English.
Why you'll love it here
We believe in supporting our team members both inside and outside of the office. By joining us, you will have access to a variety of benefits designed to help you thrive:
- Equity compensation to help you build for the future.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- 401k retirement savings options.
- Commuter benefits to make your travel to our Seaport office easier.
- Generous paid time off and maternity/paternity leave.
- Regular company retreats and team outings to celebrate our wins together.
