The New York Independent System Operator, or NYISO, plays a vital role in managing the flow of electricity across more than 11,000 miles of high-voltage lines. We are responsible for dispatching power from hundreds of generating units, operating competitive wholesale electricity markets, and planning for the future of New York's energy infrastructure. Our Information Technology department is currently seeking a dedicated professional to join our Enterprise Reporting Analytics team and help us maintain the reliability of the state's power grid.
About the Role
We are looking for a Manager, Software Development to join us in a full-time, hybrid capacity. In this position, you will lead a team of software engineers and quality assurance professionals through the entire software development lifecycle. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of our software products, ensuring that our technical solutions are high-quality, secure, and aligned with our strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct a team of approximately 10 software engineers and QA staff, managing a budget exceeding $1 million while fostering professional growth and technical excellence.
- Own the product development roadmap by coordinating with stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and IT leadership to ensure our software meets functional requirements and strategic objectives.
- Manage 24/7 on-call rotations to ensure the continuous operation of our critical systems, leading incident response efforts and coordinating with other IT teams to resolve technical challenges.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should possess a strong technical background and proven leadership experience. Our requirements include:
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
- At least seven years of professional experience in software development, project management, or technical leadership.
- A minimum of two years of experience in a supervisory role leading technical teams.
- At least five years of experience working within a full software development lifecycle environment.
- Three years of experience working in a mission-critical or enterprise IT setting.
- A solid understanding of enterprise technology, including network infrastructure, storage, database technology, and application architecture.
Location
This position is based in a hybrid work environment, allowing for a mix of remote work and periodic on-site presence to meet business needs.
Compensation and Benefits
