At Sharpsmart, we take pride in our role as a vital partner to the United Kingdom's healthcare industry. Our team works tirelessly to manage waste disposal, ensuring that hospitals and clinics can focus on what matters most. We are currently looking for a skilled professional to join our Engineering and Operations team at our facilities in Normanton and Spennymoor. By keeping our machinery running at peak capacity, you will play a direct part in supporting the essential services that keep our healthcare system moving forward.
The opportunity
We are looking for a Regional Maintenance Technician to provide hands-on support to our plant operations. In this role, you will be the backbone of our site reliability, ensuring that our equipment and facilities are always in top condition. You will receive full guidance and support from our wider engineering group while enjoying the autonomy to manage your daily tasks. Because this position covers two of our locations, you will travel between Normanton and Spennymoor using a company pool van, making you a key link between our sites.
A day in the life
- You will handle both reactive and proactive repairs on our critical machinery and site buildings, ensuring every task is logged accurately in our maintenance systems.
- You will take ownership of our workshop tools and equipment, managing stock levels, spare parts, and detailed purchase orders through Coupa.
- You will oversee the routine management of our boiler and plumbing systems, while also performing regular audits and microbiological testing to keep our operations compliant and efficient.
Who you are
You are a multi-skilled technician who feels comfortable working with your own initiative. We value candidates who bring a practical approach to problem-solving and a strong sense of responsibility for their workspace. To succeed in this role, you should have:
- At least 2 years of experience in a similar maintenance environment.
- Strong IT skills, specifically with Excel and the ability to learn our bespoke internal systems.
- A full, clean driving license and the flexibility to travel between our sites as needed.
- Fluency in English to communicate effectively with your team and manage documentation.
Why you'll love it here
We offer a stable, non-seasonal work environment where you can build a long-term career. We operate on a standard Monday to Friday schedule with 37.5 hours per week. Beyond a competitive salary, we provide a comprehensive package to support your well-being and professional growth, including:
- Pension scheme options.
- Healthcare and dentalcare plans.
- Access to the Caboodle benefits scheme.
- Dedicated training, development, and clear opportunities for career progression.
