At Talkspace, our mission is to help people heal. We are driven by the belief that quality mental healthcare should be accessible to everyone, and we are proud to serve over two million users on their wellness journeys. By combining innovative technology with a network of licensed clinicians, we are breaking down the stigma surrounding therapy and making it easier for people to get the support they need. We are looking for motivated and passionate individuals to join our team and help us continue this vital work.
The opportunity
We are looking for a Machine Learning Research Assistant to join our research team on a contract basis. This is a remote role that offers an estimated 10 to 35 hours of work per week. You will report directly to the Research Project Manager and play a key role in supporting our efforts to improve mental healthcare through data-driven insights. This position is perfect for someone who is eager to apply their skills in a purpose-driven environment where technology meets human empathy.
A day in the life
- You will label therapy transcripts based on established research rubrics to support the development and training of our natural language processing and machine learning models.
- You will assist in validating and evaluating these models using specific metrics and testing procedures to ensure they meet our quality standards.
- You will help build a comprehensive knowledge base on key research topics, including product integration and machine learning, while also assisting with data collection and academic publication efforts.
Who you are
You are a detail-oriented person with a strong interest in mental health research. We value candidates who bring a mix of technical curiosity and organizational skill to the table. Specifically, we are looking for:
- At least one year of experience in human subjects research or qualitative data analysis, or an educational background in psychology, neuroscience, or a related field.
- A strong interest in machine learning and natural language processing, with relevant coursework or experience being a significant plus.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative, remote team.
- Fluency in English.
Why you'll love it here
We are committed to transparency and fairness, and we offer a competitive hourly rate for this role ranging from $22 to $27. Beyond the compensation, you will have the chance to contribute to a mission that impacts millions of lives. As a remote contractor, you will enjoy the flexibility of working from anywhere while collaborating with a team that deeply values diversity, equity, and inclusion. We encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every single qualification, as we believe in fostering a workplace where everyone can grow and feel a true sense of belonging.
