We’re KoBold Metals, and we’re using artificial intelligence to change how the world finds the metals needed for electric vehicles, renewable energy, and data centers. In just six years we’ve grown into the largest independent mineral exploration company and the largest exploration-technology developer, backed by investors such as T. Rowe Price, Canada Pension Plan Investments, Andreessen Horowitz, and BHP. Our first discovery already ranks among the richest copper deposits ever found, and we have more than sixty additional projects in the pipeline.
What is this role?
This is a full-time, senior-level Machine Learning Engineer position. The work is fully remote, and candidates may be based anywhere in the United States or Canada, provided they are legally authorized to work in either country.
What will you do?
- Design and maintain core scientific-computing libraries that let us process massive geospatial raster datasets across distributed systems.
- Build the internal tools and frameworks-experimentation environments, evaluation pipelines, and production-grade ML workflows-that keep our data-science team moving quickly and reliably.
- Partner with data scientists and geologists to create models that predict where valuable mineral concentrations are hidden in the Earth’s crust.
What makes you a great fit?
You bring at least five years of hands-on software-engineering, data-science, or machine-learning experience, and you have a track record of shipping production-quality data tools that create real business value. You are fluent in Python and comfortable with array-oriented libraries such as NumPy and xarray, and you know how to scale complex workloads with distributed frameworks like Spark or Dask. You understand both classical and deep-learning approaches to machine learning, and you have worked with multispectral remote-sensing imagery. Just as important, you enjoy collaborating across disciplines, explaining technical ideas to geologists and operations teams, and taking ownership of large, open-ended projects in a fast-moving startup environment.
What's in it for you?
The US base salary range for this full-time exempt role is $200,000–$300,000. In addition, you will work remotely from anywhere in the United States or Canada, giving you the freedom to choose where you live while staying fully connected to a mission-driven team.
