Insurance is often viewed as a slow and unexciting industry, but at Vouch, we are changing that narrative. We are a technology-first insurance provider backed by $185M in funding, dedicated to supporting high-growth startups with modern, responsive, and relevant coverage. By replacing outdated, paper-heavy processes with intuitive digital experiences, we are building the go-to insurance platform for the next generation of innovative companies.
What is this role?
We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join our Insurance Distribution team on a full-time basis. This is a remote position open to candidates anywhere in the U.S., provided you can align with our core collaboration hours of 8:30 am to 2:30 pm Pacific Time. As a lead, you will be responsible for driving technical strategy, mentoring team members, and building the systems that power our application and quote flows.
What will you do?
- Take ownership of the technical design and breakdown for complex software projects within our core product.
- Lead and support other engineers to ensure we deliver multi-phase projects while meeting our ambitious goals.
- Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to translate insurance workflows into flexible, scalable technical solutions.
What makes you a great fit?
To be successful in this role, you should have at least 7 years of development experience, including at least one year of leading large-scale projects. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working across the stack and has a strong grasp of distributed systems and API design. Proficiency in TypeScript is essential, and experience with Ruby on Rails is considered a significant plus. You should be comfortable designing schemas for relational databases like PostgreSQL and have a solid understanding of modern engineering practices, including Prisma, NestJS, React, GraphQL, Jest, and Playwright. Because this is a leadership position, we value exceptional communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse teams, including designers, product managers, and executives.
What's in it for you?
We offer a competitive annual salary range of $185,000 to $195,000. Beyond the base pay, we provide a comprehensive package designed to support your well-being and professional growth:
- Dental insurance and vision insurance.
- Unlimited vacation time to help you recharge.
- Dedicated professional development opportunities.
- A fully remote work environment.
