Stitch Fix is the leading online personal styling service, dedicated to helping people discover clothing that fits perfectly and helps them feel their best. Founded in 2011, we bridge the gap between expert human stylists and advanced AI recommendation algorithms to provide a convenient, personalized shopping experience. Our mission is to eliminate the frustration of traditional retail by delivering curated styles directly to our clients, allowing them to express their individuality without the need to spend hours in stores or sifting through endless online options.
The role
We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join our Payments team on a full-time, remote basis. This is a leadership position for someone with roughly 5 or more years of professional programming experience, including at least one year in a technical leadership capacity. You will work within a distributed team of 4 to 6 engineers to scale our payment systems, ensuring our financial infrastructure remains secure, transparent, and seamless for our growing client base.
Core responsibilities
- Lead the execution of complex technical projects while collaborating with cross-functional partners in product, design, and finance to deliver sustainable, high-value solutions.
- Provide technical mentorship, code reviews, and timely feedback to your teammates to foster their professional growth and ensure high-quality engineering standards.
- Own the lifecycle of our payment processing systems, including vendor integrations, fraud detection, financial reporting, and compliance requirements.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you should have a strong technical foundation and a passion for building resilient systems. We value candidates who possess the following:
- Hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails and modern web stacks, including Golang, Postgres, GraphQL, and Kafka.
- Proficiency with frontend frameworks such as React, Next.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, and CSS.
- Proven experience in the payment processing engineering space.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to frame business problems using data and empirical evidence.
- A collaborative mindset with experience working in distributed, agile-inspired environments.
Compensation and benefits
The salary range for this position is $111,800 to $186,000 USD, depending on your professional background, experience, location, and performance. In addition to a competitive salary, we provide a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
- Equity compensation through restricted stock units.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- Paid time off to ensure you have time to recharge.
- The flexibility of a remote work environment.
