Are you ready to help us build a new category of developer tooling that empowers organizations to reach their full potential? At Cortex, we provide an Engineering Operations Platform that gives teams the visibility and automation they need to improve operational maturity and reduce developer friction. We are currently a team of about 80 people, backed by $60 million in Series C funding, and we are looking for a talented individual to help us continue our mission of making engineering organizations more effective.
What you bring
We are seeking a Lead Software Engineer, Backend to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a senior-level role that focuses on solving complex technical challenges, managing distributed systems, and ensuring our backend architecture is robust enough to support our growing customer base. You can work from anywhere in the United States as part of our remote-first culture. Your primary responsibilities will include the following:
- Designing and maintaining scalable backend services that meet the high demands of our enterprise customers.
- Collaborating with our product and engineering teams to build new features and improve existing functionality.
- Optimizing the performance and reliability of our core systems while participating in production incident response.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you should have at least seven years of experience building backend applications using modern programming languages. We look for candidates who possess a strong grasp of distributed systems, microservices, and cloud computing, along with proficiency in database technologies like MySQL, Postgres, and MongoDB. You should be comfortable with complex data structures and algorithms, and you must have a solid foundation in web development best practices. We value excellent communication skills and a passion for mentoring junior engineers, as well as the ability to adapt to new technologies as our platform evolves. A bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent professional experience is required.
What we offer
We are pleased to offer a starting salary range of $215,000 to $245,000, in addition to a competitive equity package. We believe in supporting our team members both inside and outside of the office, so we provide a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
- Full coverage for medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- Unlimited vacation time and flexible working hours.
- A 401k retirement plan.
- Gender-neutral parental leave.
- A dedicated learning budget to support your professional growth.
- Support for a remote work lifestyle.
How to Apply
If you are excited about the prospect of shaping the future of engineering operations and working with a collaborative, remote-first team, we would love to hear from you. Please reach out to us with your application to start the conversation about how you can contribute to the next chapter of Cortex.
