Lead Security Engineer at dYdX

We are now seeking a Lead Security Engineer to join our team in New York on a hybrid schedule and help protect the integrity of our platform as we scale.

Key outcomes

• Write and review secure smart contract and protocol code that underpins our trading systems.
• Partner with engineering teams to review new protocol releases, identify risks, and deliver practical security solutions.
• Evaluate, select, and lead the integration of security partners and tools that strengthen our defenses.
• Investigate security events, triage potential incidents, and coordinate response efforts across relevant teams.
• Review system designs to confirm that backend infrastructure remains secure and reliable.
• Identify and remediate vulnerabilities aligned with the OWASP Top 10 and other industry standards.
• Proactively reduce security risks throughout the codebase and remove outdated or vulnerable libraries.
• Develop and deliver security training and guidance to internal development teams.
• Collaborate with cross-functional groups to ensure security supports the overall product vision.
• Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables while applying deep technical expertise.

Requirements

• Four or more years of security engineering or cybersecurity experience.
• Hands-on experience securing infrastructure on major cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, and Azure.
• Proficiency in testing security software and monitoring networks for breaches.
• Ability to write secure, efficient, high-quality code with a strong grasp of computer science fundamentals.
• Experience with or willingness to learn Solidity, Go, JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, Express, WebSockets, Docker, AWS, and Terraform.
• Capacity to learn new technologies rapidly and apply them effectively.
• Professional working proficiency in English.

Preferred qualifications

• Interest in building and mentoring a team of security engineers.
• Strong interest in decentralized finance and its underlying technologies.
• Experience building blockchain applications or smart contracts.
• Track record of architecting solutions for ambiguous problems with significant organizational impact.
• Computer science degree or equivalent practical experience.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is $195,000 to $300,000 USD. In addition to base pay, we offer hybrid and remote work options, equity compensation, professional development support, paid time off, medical insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, life insurance, and a 401(k) plan.
