Are you ready to help us transform the chemical industry by replacing carbon-intensive materials with high-performance, bio-inspired solutions? At Lygos, we are dedicated to accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable chemistry through our proprietary technology platform. We have developed innovative product lines like our Soltellus biodegradable polymers and Ecoteria fragrances, and we are looking for a passionate professional to join our team and help us scale these solutions for a cleaner future.
What you bring
We are looking for a Lead Process Design Engineer to join our Operations team on a full-time, remote basis. You will report to the Director of Engineering Projects and serve as the primary technical lead for our Soltellus polymer process as we move toward full-scale commercial production. This role requires a blend of technical expertise in process design and the ability to manage complex engineering projects across multiple external partners. Your work will be based anywhere, though you should be prepared for approximately 40% travel to visit manufacturing sites, equipment vendors, and our future biorefinery locations.
- Lead the engineering design and technical support for our pre-commercial and full-scale manufacturing activities.
- Develop essential process documentation, including mass and energy balances, P&IDs, and equipment specifications.
- Plan and execute pilot-scale trials to finalize equipment selection and shepherd our technology through successful commercial tech transfer.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you should hold a BS or MS in Chemical Engineering and bring at least 8 years of experience in process development and specialty chemical manufacturing. We value candidates who have a proven track record of scaling novel technologies from the lab or pilot stage to full industrial production. You must be comfortable working with English as your primary language and possess a deep understanding of unit operations, piping systems, and material handling. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who is data-driven and collaborative, with a strong commitment to safety and ethical standards. While not required, experience with water-soluble polymer systems is considered a significant advantage.
What we offer
We provide a compensation package with a salary range of $138,000 to $192,000 per year, depending on your individual experience and performance. In addition to competitive pay, we support our team members with the following benefits:
- Remote work flexibility.
- 401k retirement plan.
- Comprehensive medical insurance.
- Dental insurance.
- Stock options.
How to Apply
If you are excited about the prospect of engineering sustainable solutions that make a real-world impact, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your application to join our team and help us build the next generation of high-performing, eco-friendly products.
