You likely interact with Apollo’s technology every week, whether you are streaming your favorite series, booking travel, or catching up on the news. We support some of the most prominent GraphQL platforms globally, and we are currently looking for a Lead Data Scientist to join our team as a founding member. This is a full-time, remote role where you will partner with our Product, Finance, Growth, and Go-to-Market teams to shape our data practice and drive strategic decision-making across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Spearhead the creation of our data science practice, serving as the primary leader for the function.
- Design and implement systems that ensure our strategy and product development are informed by intelligent data usage.
- Apply machine learning, statistical modeling, causal inference, and optimization to transform complex data into actionable insights.
- Collaborate with executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to identify opportunities and influence our technical roadmap.
- Manage projects from planning to execution, ensuring ethical data practices and clear communication of findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Balance technical rigor with business constraints to drive high-impact outcomes in an environment of high ambiguity.
Must-haves
- Approximately 10 years of experience in data science or quantitative modeling focused on solving business and product challenges.
- Proficiency in SQL and a programming language such as Python or R.
- Strong hands-on experience in areas such as product analytics, experimentation, and statistical analysis.
- A proven track record of leading organization-wide initiatives or influencing technical strategy across multiple teams.
- Excellent communication skills with a focus on delivering clear, impactful results.
- A builder's mindset, characterized by the ability to question assumptions and maintain a balance between research depth and execution velocity.
- Fluency in English.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience designing and analyzing complex experiments or utilizing causal inference designs.
- Background in Growth-related challenges, including attribution, channel performance, and CAC optimization.
- Familiarity with distributed computing tools like Spark or Hadoop.
- An MS or PhD in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, or Operations Research.
- Experience in developing and deploying comprehensive metric frameworks.
