About the Role
We are seeking a Lead Data Scientist to join us on a full-time basis. In this role, you will manage a team of data scientists while overseeing projects that directly support our award-winning journalism and subscriber growth. You will bridge the gap between technical execution and business strategy, collaborating with engineers, product managers, and journalists to deliver impactful solutions like content personalization and churn prediction.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and mentor a team of five or more data scientists to foster professional growth and high-quality output.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure that data products, models, and services align with our broader business objectives.
- Champion best practices in data science by establishing clear frameworks and communicating project outcomes effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Requirements
To be successful in this position, you should bring a blend of technical expertise and leadership experience. We are looking for the following qualifications:
- Proven experience in managing and mentoring data science teams.
- Demonstrated success in delivering data science solutions within a business environment using Python or R.
- Strong proficiency in working with large datasets to solve complex problems.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts through visualizations, presentations, or writing.
- Strong organizational skills, specifically the ability to balance multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Familiarity with modern data tools such as AWS, Spark, and Kafka is highly valued.
