Lead Backend Engineer, Data & AI at Thirdfort

Role at a glance

We are seeking a Lead Backend Engineer to join our Data and AI team. This is a full-time, remote position available to candidates located anywhere in the UK. As a lead-level engineer, you will work directly with our Head of Engineering to bridge the gap between complex data infrastructure and tangible customer outcomes, helping us build the next generation of our anti-fraud technology.

Your impact

• Own our data strategy by managing infrastructure, schemas, and APIs while ensuring our data remains accessible and user-friendly across the organization.
• Architect data foundations by identifying high-quality sources, iterating on data models, and building robust pipelines that support our long-term analytics goals.
• Drive AI innovation by identifying product-driven opportunities to integrate Machine Learning and Large Language Models, taking solutions from prototype to production.

What you'll need

We are looking for a collaborative leader who balances technical depth with a strong product mindset. You should be comfortable shaping conversations with stakeholders and delivering pragmatic solutions that move the needle for our customers.

• At least two years of hands-on experience in data engineering, specifically with data ingestion, transformation, and schema design.
• Professional experience integrating Machine Learning and Large Language Models into real-world business processes.
• Significant experience building performant, responsive APIs and working with modern backend languages.
• Deep familiarity with cloud-based data stacks, with a preference for GCP.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to cross-functional teams.
• Fluency in English.
