Lead AI ML Engineer at Soraschools

We are Sora Schools, an accredited online middle and high school that replaces traditional lecture-based classes with passion-driven projects. Students build video games, write novels, conduct research, and connect with industry mentors while learning academic subjects alongside financial literacy and philosophy in small, tight-knit cohorts. We are now bringing AI into our bespoke Learning Management System to further personalize and strengthen this progressive approach to education.

Responsibilities

• Lead the AI Tutor project from initial concept through deployment, keeping the work on schedule, within budget, and aligned with our educational goals.
• Manage our large video dataset, overseeing annotation, augmentation, and preparation so the data is ready for effective model training.
• Guide the design, training, and refinement of AI/ML models that understand and replicate strong teaching practices, while collaborating closely with LMS developers and designers to ensure smooth integration.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
• At least five years of hands-on experience leading AI/ML projects, ideally within education technology.
• Strong practical knowledge of TensorFlow or PyTorch and fluency in Python.
• Proven skill in handling and preparing large datasets for model training.
• Demonstrated success leading technical teams and delivering projects to completion.
• Clear, confident communication that translates complex technical ideas for colleagues and stakeholders without technical backgrounds.
• Comfort working in a fast-moving, early-stage environment where priorities can shift quickly.
