Picture a fleet of autonomous trucks quietly transforming mining operations across the globe. At Pronto, our Silicon Valley veterans have spent two decades turning ambitious autonomous-vehicle ideas into working systems, and today we focus that experience on off-road haulage at quarries and mines. We are already on the path to becoming the world’s first profitable AV company, and we are looking for curious engineers who want to help us get there.
The opportunity
As a Junior Software Engineer you will sit at the meeting point of hardware and software, helping both teams turn new devices into reliable, production-ready equipment. Your code will run on the trucks and support systems that keep our fleet moving, giving you a direct line from the work you do at your desk to machines operating in the field. The role is full-time and on-site in San Francisco, and it offers clear room to grow as our technology and team expand.
A day in the life
- You might start the morning writing Python and Bash scripts that bring up new Linux devices, configure them, and run automated tests so the hardware team can move quickly from prototype to production unit.
- Midday could find you reworking parts of our device database or building simple dashboards that show the real-time status and location of every piece of equipment in the fleet.
- In the afternoon you often pair with electrical engineers to create configuration routines and diagnostic tools for custom boards, then help deploy those tools in our mission-critical environment.
Who you are
You have some internship or comparable software experience and you are comfortable programming in Python. You know your way around a Linux environment and can write useful Bash scripts. Exposure to AWS, hardware interfacing, or embedded software is helpful but not required. You enjoy solving ambiguous problems, you communicate clearly, and you pay close attention to detail so the systems you build remain maintainable as they scale.
Why you'll love it here
The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $120,000. In addition to your salary you will receive medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance, a 401k with matching contributions, equity compensation, unlimited vacation, paid holidays, paid parental leave, and pre-tax commuter benefits. Every Tuesday and Thursday the whole team gathers for lunch in our SOMA office, giving everyone a chance to share ideas face-to-face and celebrate the progress we make together.
