At VivaCity, we are dedicated to making urban environments smarter, safer, and more sustainable through the power of AI and IoT. With over 6,000 sensors deployed globally, we collect real-time, anonymous data on traffic and transport patterns to help authorities make informed decisions. We operate with a strong commitment to privacy by design and foster a collaborative culture where innovation thrives. We are looking for a motivated Junior Backend Engineer to join our six-person team and help us manage the massive flow of data that powers our mission.
What you'll be doing
- You will develop new microservices and assist with infrastructure migrations to ensure our systems remain robust and scalable.
- You will collaborate closely with AI engineers to maintain the reliability of our deployed models and data pipelines.
- You will engage in pair programming and regular team touch points, allowing you to learn from senior colleagues while taking ownership of your own projects.
What you'll bring
To succeed in this role, you should be curious, energetic, and ready to tackle complex technical challenges. We value clear communication and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Your background should include the following:
- Proven experience with Go, either in a commercial setting or through significant personal projects.
- Familiarity with Git and the Linux command line.
- Foundational knowledge of cloud software engineering, Docker, Kubernetes, and SQL.
- A strong sense of accountability and a willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies.
- Bonus points if you have experience with Terraform, Kafka, CI/CD pipelines, or working in a fast-paced startup environment.
What you'll get
We offer a salary range of £40,000 to £55,000 per year. In addition to competitive pay, you will benefit from:
- A hybrid work arrangement, with our team primarily based in our London office.
- The opportunity to work on meaningful technology that has a positive impact on global transport networks.
- A supportive environment that prioritizes professional growth, learning, and community.
