We are looking for an Internal Controls Lead to join our team in a full-time, on-site capacity. At STR, we specialize in advanced research and development for defense, intelligence, and national security, working on cutting-edge projects ranging from cyber and electronic warfare to artificial intelligence, all with the goal of making the world a safer place.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and monitor our internal control framework to safeguard financial reporting and business operations.
- Coordinate a quarterly audit plan for approval by the audit committee and develop a five-year strategic audit roadmap.
- Formulate and update policies to improve compliance, efficiency, and internal control standards.
- Lead internal control reviews in collaboration with external advisors and manage engagement with external auditors.
- Report on control deficiencies and progress on action plans to senior leadership and the audit committee.
- Partner with business owners to ensure effective remediation of identified risks.
- Drive standardization and automation by deploying innovative technology to enhance control effectiveness.
- Provide training to business partners to build a strong culture of risk awareness and control methodology.
- Support the Finance department in maintaining detailed process documentation and desktop procedures.
Must-haves
- Proven track record in developing internal audit frameworks and managing financial reporting risks.
- Experience using technology to improve the efficiency of internal controls.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess business risk and quantify materiality.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex risk matters to various stakeholders.
- Professional experience in Finance, Accounting, or Government Contracting.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with Costpoint and ADP systems.
- U.S. citizenship is required to obtain the necessary security clearance for this role.
- Fluency in English.
